Wuhu, Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute Sign Letter of Intent

    Wuhu Municipal People’s Government and the Robotics Institute, academic department under the School of Computer Science of Carnegie Mellon University in the United States signed a letter of intent for cooperation at Tieshan Hotel on December 12. Pan Zhaohui, Wuhu Party chief, He Maoxie, mayor of Wuhu, Dr. Martial Hebert, director of the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon witnessed the signing.

         Wuhu is the only city for robot industry clustering in China approved by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Finance. The city now boasts of 88 robot enterprises and quite a few robotics research institutes.

    The Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute is the first professional research institute in the world focusing study on robot technology. The institute, commanding the world leading robot technology, features profound knowledge of robotics and fruitful achievements from its research. The discipline, subject settings and the scientific research innovation platforms of the institute are highly consistent with the elements of the industrial structure for robot and AI equipment of the city. 

    Based on the letter of intent signed, the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute will give full play to its robot education and research strength and support Wuhu to overcome technical difficulties. The two sides will follow the world robot development trend and make action plans to promote commercialization of some high-end projects. Moreover, the two sides will promote the agglomeration of robot projects, technology, talent and other sci-tech innovation factors in Wuhu and make an Asia first-class robot production, education and research platform for the city, which will surely inject strong dynamics into Wuhu for the city to better and faster develop itself.

     It is learned that the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute has started collaboration on robotics with the Wuhu-based Efort Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. The signing of the letter of content will further consolidate the cooperation between the city and the institute. Wuhu will strengthen interaction and exchanges with the institute, fasten the strategic cooperation and deepen robot education and training, engineering R&D, project incubating in commercial robots and smart manufacturing.

     The signing is an activity of the 8th action of foreign experts in Anhui. After the signing, Dr. Martial Hebert will visit XiRobot and other enterprises to further understand the development of the robot industry in Wuhu for further cooperation, as our reporter learned.
