Chery, iFlytek Launch AI Fund

    Chery Automobile Co worked with iFlytek Co, China’s leading voice recognition firm, to launch an AI development fund, aiming to create an industrial chain for AI self-driving vehicles, Anhui Daily reports on Monday.


    The move is believed to give a boost to the local intelligent car industry.


    Based in Wuhu, east China’s Anhui province, the homegrown automaker is one of the early pioneers in intelligent vehicle manufacturing.


    The company set up a technological platform for self-driving cars, in collaboration with Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences as early as 2010. Two generations of products featuring auto cruise control (ACC) and human machine interface (HMI) have been developed. The company plans to have self-driving cars with Level 5 capability in 2026.


    The new Chery Tiggo 8, a large seven-seat SUV equipped with an intelligent system, has been popular among consumers ever since it hit the market on April 25. The company has received more than 10,000 orders for the SUV.
