A. Zhongshan Lu Walking Street

    Wuhu, located at the junction of the Yangtze River and Qingyi River, and surrounded by green hills and limpid lakes, is a city well-known for its Gigantic Port on the Yangtze River and Mainstay of Anhui Province. Thanks to the rich civilization of the Yangtze River in the cultivation of history, geography and humanity, and the painstaking efforts of the local people for gaining more constant developments, there has established in history an unique Wuhu commercial culture.

    Zhongshan Lu, the walking commercial area for modern living, which was evolved from the flourishing small-commodities market of ancient Shili Long Street, is now regarded as a milestone of historical development of Wuhu.

    With the passing of almost a century, Zhongshan Lu has appeared a completely new look. Before 1902(28th year of Guangxu Reign of Qing Dynasty), it was just a narrow lane, and later made into simple wide road. The road took its name from Dr.Sun Yat-sen in 1925 after he visited Wuhu and made a speech at the very place in 1912.In early 1950’s, Zhongshan Lu had a big re-construction, and more and more shops were set up along two sides of the road. Since then, it turned into the commercial center of Wuhu. Since 1990’s, benefiting from the reforming and opening policies, Wuhu has been designated as a leading city for opening and a center of commerce and trade in the region. In this case, the plan of reshaping Zhongshan Lu was put on the working agenda .The project actually started from January,1990.With the joint efforts of all the citizens for almost with its unique muti-functions for shopping entertaining and sightseeing has initially completed.

    Zhongshan Lu, which neighbors the month of Qingyi River to the south and hugs the Mirror Lake to the east, has indeed formed itself an ideal compound with attractive landscapes and modern commercial facilities because it has been so carefully designed and well planned for easy walking shopping and pleasure. It will remain thriving along with the development of Wuhu and prosperity of the nation.


    B.Jiuzi Plaza

    Located in the city center, Jiuzi Square was built on the former location of Wuhu municipal government occupying an area of 67.8 thousand sq. m. It was declared in 1999 that a square was to be built for public recreation after relocating the city government. 

    After one-year construction, the square opened to the public in April 2000. Along with the nearby Mirror Lake and the walking street, it has formed an ideal place for tourism, recreation and shopping. Set in the center of the square is a theme statue representing the diligence, wisdom, and initiative of the native people. The statue, cast in bronze and 33 meters high, is shaped after a legendary bird “jiuzi” which is also the ancient name of Wuhu. Upon the nine flying birds is a golden ball symbolizing prosperous hope. On the northern part of the square, there is a long corridor supported by 24 marble columns, on which exquisite patterns were carved introducing local history and culture.

    C.Wuhu Yangtze River Bridge

    Wuhu Yangtze River Bridge,built in 2000, is one of the key transportation projects in Chinese Ninth Five-Year Plan. It is a dual-use bridge, containing both highway and railway. With the investment of 4.6 billion yuan, it is famous for its advanced technology, first-class quality and huge construction quantities, which contribute to its reputation as “the bridge of the century”.


    D.Lotus Charm in Taoxin Town

    Taoxin, a small town in Wuhu County, is 20 kilometers from downtown. The scenic spot for lotus appreciation covers 81.8 sq. km and extends to more than 100 sq. km with vast river nets. The legend goes that in 1108, a carpenter with the surname Tao, a descendant of the famous Chinese poet Tao Yuanming, came from Jiangxi province and, after settlement, he organized people to construct an oval dike, from which formed the eternal labyrinth-like water area.

    Taking advantage of local tourist resources, people in Taoxin plant lotus flowers of over 10 varieties, which attracts visitors far and near in summer to view the wonderful scenery. On Fragrance Island, the major tourist attraction, various pavilions and bridges were designed for visitors to enjoy the charm of lotus.

    It is now graded as a national AA tourist attraction and provincial demonstrative spot for rural tourism.

    E.Maren Forest Park

    Maren Mountain, located in Fanchang County, is the only provincial forest park in Wuhu and was granted in 2004 as a national 3A tourist attraction. Enjoying a sub-tropical climate, it remains mild all year long with temperature of 15.9℃. The park, 95% of which is covered with forest, offers visitors a good company of a great variety of rare animals and plants.


     F.Yashan Mountain with Flower Sea and Stone Forest

    Yashan Mountain is situated in Hewan Town, Naling County, right at the junction of three cities: Tongling, Chizhou and Wuhu. Being the largest landscape of karst landform in the Delta Region of Yangtze River, it Covers 25 sq. km and embraces enchanting beauty in stone forest, solution cavities, waterfalls, canyons, natural holes, underground rivers and mountaintop lakes.

    Yashan Mountain enjoys a high reputation for its peonies, which blossom in spring and carpet the whole mountain, forming a pleasing contrast with the stone forest.

    The Nanshan Temple is said to be built by Jin Qiaojue, who later became Buddha of the Earth, before settled down in Jiuhua Mountain, he initiated the long history of Buddhism in Yashan. Besides, the ancient ancestral halls, Cliffside carvings, and stone arch bridges built in Tang, Song, Ming and Qing Dynasties, are all reminders of the past prosperity.
